The Collaborative for Healthy Aging and Care is an informal coalition of organizations, community groups and citizens that have an interest in healthy aging and care. We promote collaborative, community-driven efforts that respond to opportunities and challenges related to aging in New Brunswick.
A New Conversation · A New Culture · A New Collaborative · A New Brunswick Story
It all started with one conversation. In 2011, long-term care providers from across New Brunswick came together to discuss operational challenges within the sector. This conversation revealed the inefficiencies of our siloed approach to supporting New Brunswickers across the continuum of care. With one of the fastest growing older adult populations in Canada, we knew the only way forward was in collaboration. It was time to break down the silos and create a shared conversation on healthy aging and care in New Brunswick.
One year later, more than 300 New Brunswickers of all ages came together to create a shared and sustainable vision for healthy aging and wellbeing in communities, at the Summit for Healthy Aging and Care. Conversations captured and outcomes identified from this event are what inspired the concept of a provincial collaborative. There was a call to harness the collective energy of these organizations, government departments, and individual stakeholders and to create a central focus for communication and collaboration. From there, the idea was planted; and the Collaborative for Healthy Aging and Care began to take root!
In recent years, these roots have continued to grow. A second Summit event hosted in 2017 revealed the growing capacity of communities in creating action at the local level. We are committed to deepening this impact by promoting, mobilizing, and celebrating the power of grassroots leadership in communities across New Brunswick.
